Born and raised in New England, Anne lives with her family in Asheville, North Carolina. She started sewing at age 13 on her grandmother’s old Singer. Over the years she has held many jobs in the sewing industry- from manufacturing bags in a small factory, to sewing alterations at a high-end bridal boutique, to owning and operating a small business designing and sewing women and children’s clothing.
Anne comes from a long line of do-it-yourselfers - use what you have and waste nothing. Her materials are largely re-purposed - old clothing, textiles from estate sales, and donated cast-offs from friends.
A key component of her work is the hand quilting she does once the quilt top is designed and pieced. This process can take many weeks, and she uses larger stitches and thread so that the viewer can see and feel the time and care that went into each piece. Hand stitching infuses each piece with care, intention, and history. Slow down as you see and feel each stitch, reflect on the past, keep fabric out of the landfills, and wrap yourself up.
